Rhinoplasty procedure helps patients achieve more attractive facial profiles by altering the size and shape of the most dominant feature of the face – the nose. If a patient desires major changes to the size and/or shape of the nose, the surgeon usually recommends and performs a type of rhinoplasty called open rhinoplasty. During this procedure, the surgeon makes an incision on the columella, the vertical strip of skin separating the nostrils. If rhinoplasty is performed in the surgeon's office and an overnight stay is required, a nurse is always at hand to take care of the patient. Most patients, however, are able to go home the day of surgery. Most of the post-operative swelling disappears by the fourth week after rhinoplasty, and usually patients are able to resume their social lives within six weeks after nose surgery.
