Information for Rhinoplasty Patients
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that allows a patient to attain a more balanced facial profile by changing the size and shape of the nose. During this 1-3 hour-long procedure, a surgeon makes an incision in the vertical strip of skin separating the nostrils called the columella (open rhinoplasty), or in the inside of the nose (closed rhinoplasty). The skin is then gently lifted and the cartilage is reshaped in order to improve facial symmetry. After surgery, the nose is supported by an external splint and the patient may be asked to keep the head elevated for 24 hours after surgery. Some patients can resume their social life within four weeks of surgery, but the majority of patients choose to wait a full six weeks before going out again. Patients may also choose to undergo other surgeries in addition to rhinoplasty, such as facelift, liposuction and tummy tuck, in order to achieve a complete face and body makeover. If considering plastic surgery, please consult a board-certified plastic surgeon before making any decisions.
